JOB'S BLESSING
There we read about God's blessings on Job.
There were born to him seven sons and three daughters. 3 He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys, and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.
Job had 10 children. That is a great blessing. And you know of course that in the ancient world, and the African culture is more close to the culture of the ancient world than my American culture. In America, we sing of the glory of having few children. In the Ancient world, the gloried in having many children. Those were blessings from God. And especially for Job to have seven sons through whom his name can be carried on, through whom his legacy can be passed on, and of course to work for him and to build the wealth of the family; and here he is described as the wealthiest man of his region and of his time.
